What's in a name? Name Change Checklist

I've been married for over a year now and I still haven't changed my name on everything. I've made it one of my goals this year to submit a name change on everything that still needs to be changed. Throughout the year,   I've compiled a list and today I want to share. I wish this list existed when I was first married. Perhaps it would all be finished by now :)

Having my old last name as my middle name has made this entire name change process very easy.  When making purchases on  cards, the cashier would need to see my ID. The names wouldn't match but my old last name was still there as a middle name I would then point out how I was married and in the process of changing my name on everything.

Before you start the process, get a few certified copies of your marriage certificate (some places may ask to keep a copy).

Legal Documents
Social Security card--first thing!
Driver's license--next thing!
Vehicle registration
Car title
☐ Mortgage/Rent
Debit Cards
Credit Cards
Checks
Passport
W2 form (this will likely change when you change your name at work)

Work Related
Human Resources--start here first! It's likely they will have a procedure.
Paycheck
Badge
 Voice mail greeting
Email address
Email signature
Business cards
Resume
Professional organizations
Credentialing organizations

Personal Stuff
Insurance (home, auto, life, flood)
Doctor's office
Dentist's office
Library card
Online subscriptions
Magazines
Personal email (optional)
Personal email signature
Voter registration
Pet microchip information
Vet information
Social media (Twitter, FB, Instagram, etc.)

Moral of the story: Think twice about changing your name. I'm kidding. There is nothing more that I'd want to ever be than Mrs. Hub's Last Name.

If you can think of anything I missed, let me know in the comments section and I'll update my list.

Also, if you wish you had this list around when you were a newlywed :) /newly divorced :( please pin it so others can make use of it!!

I just recently changed my name. I didn't keep my maiden name as my middle name - there were moments when I regretted it but all in all so far so good. The only thing I haven't changed yet is my passport ... hello you have to pay like $$ to just change your name what a rip off!! We plan on going to Ireland this year and I'm thinking why not just put my plane ticket in my maiden name and save some $$.

I have to be sure to keep this list for whenever this time comes for me. I'm sure we'll still be in touch in the next few years. Great info thanks

Oh my goodness, this is such a long list! Thankfully I was still in college and didn't have that much to change! I didn't keep my maiden name as my middle name but sometimes I wish I did!

Something you forgot to add: INSURANCE!
-health insurance (this may be through your work - you may also be adding yourself to hub's plan or adding him to yours - with some employers/plans you only have 30 days post marriage to do the adding)
-car insurance
-homeowners/renters insurance
-life insurances
